Left Hand Drive Vehicles are allowed to be import in the country.
Documents Required:
Certificate of Title and Registration - copies
Bill of Lading
Commercial/Purchase Invoice – must be original
Insurance certificate
Driver’s license – current copy
DOT/EPA Form to be completed and signed by owner
Importing a Vehicle:
All imported vehicles must meet US motor vehicle safety standards, Department of Transportation and Environmental Protection Agency standards.
Failure to meet US emissions and safety standards can lead to cost prohibitive conversion costs as well as bonding and detention charges.
Vehicles less than three months old are subject to import tax of 4%.
Note- A non-US resident can import a vehicle for a period of up to 1 year as a tourist, but no extension will be allowed. The importer is required to obtain a permission letter prior to shipping the vehicle from the EPA
Duties and Taxes:
Used vehicles are traded all over the world but it is governed by a specific set of legal binding and obligations. There is an additional amount of money which adds up to the total cost of ownership as a result of import duties and taxes. Every country follows its unique set of vehicle trade policies and regulations that are mandatory to follow.
Procession fee of $5 is applicable on used vehicles.
